There’s so much good advice out there but who truly follows the good words? “Don’t compare. Give freely. Worrying is useless. Give more receive less. Don’t focus on the money.” Like self-affirmations, positive thinking, faking it until we make it – the words are only as strong as the power we give them. And much like the uselessness of taking an iron supplement without first considering absorption (yes taking it with vitamin C) so it is that the messages that we often give ourselves and to each other are proven useless if we do not give full credence to the power of our beliefs.
But to exercise our power of belief consciously is one thing and believing in something naively like the way a child believes is another. We were all children once and our imaginations used to soar. We had no inhibitions, we were free to play to our hearts content and make friends wherever we went. Now, as adults we have our guards up, we compare, we compete, we criticize, we objectify, we analyze, we talk ourselves down, and we do all the things necessary to avoid the pains that come with seeing things as they are.
Maybe it is as simple as it sounds and all you have to do is believe. Believe in yourself. Don’t say it; don’t talk about it – just live it. Live it every day like 9 year old Caine Monroy. Who with just some cardboard boxes, his imagination, and a supportive dad created something absolutely amazing! Check out this short 11 minute documentary about Caine Monroy that I know will lift your spirits and touch your hearts.
So maybe it is true what they say about the best things in life being free. Maybe it’s true what they say about the best things in life coming to those who wait. Perhaps the stars will eventually align just so and perhaps the universe will unfold as it should. Until then keep at it!
